Michael Portland is a member of Egon Zehnder’s CEO and Board Consulting practices and has deep expertise in CEO and C-suite succession, executive development, and senior executive assessment. Based in Chicago, he specializes in leadership and board effectiveness, organizational design, and strategy. Mike works in numerous industry segments, with a particular focus on the industrial and process industry sectors. He is also active in Egon Zehnder’s Executive Assessment and Development and Industrial practices.

I enjoy helping boards and organizations build their next generation of leaders.

Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Mike was Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing & Development Officer at RR Donnelley Inc. in Chicago. Previously, he held several executive leadership roles at Ashland Chemical Company. Earlier in his career, Mike was a Senior Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, based in Cleveland and Amsterdam.

Mike has a BA in engineering sciences from Dartmouth College, a BE in engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth, and an MBA from Harvard University. He is a member of the executive committee and former Chair of the Board of the Associated Colleges of Illinois, a nonprofit organization promoting and supporting academic success in higher education for high-need students.
