South China Morning Post – Leaders: Play to Your Strengths

Why do many companies encourage executives to focus on their weaknesses, when building their strengths is what makes a difference to the bottom line? “Leaders with extraordinary “spikes” in one or two areas can generate huge value – even if they are average at other skills”, writes Catherine Zhu, a consultant at Egon Zehnder, in SCMP. “For the leaders of tomorrow, my message is: identify your core strengths and invest heavily in cultivating them.” Instead of trying to acquire missing strengths, Zhu advises leaders to recruit team members who can compensate for their shortcomings.
