Australian firms seek leaders with risk expertise

There is a growing trend towards recruiting top finance leaders with expertise in risk, notes Kokkong Chan, a consultant at Egon Zehnder International, Sydney, in CFO Australia. According to a recent Egon Zehnder International study of 19 Chief Financial Officers from international companies, the typical career path of finance leaders is also changing. “For a long time in Britain, if you wanted to be a senior executive, you had to have an arts degree. But we’ve changed that [perception] over here in Australia. There’s certainly a shift from people who are growth focused to those who have a good understanding of managing the financials and risk, and can manage bank-stakeholder relationships,” explains Chan. |
