Resilience
Harvard Business Manager

In its July issue, Harvard Business Manager, the German counterpart of Harvard Business Review, covers the International Executive Panel on the topic of resilience. The survey, which can be called up via the Egon Zehnder International website, the magazine writes, reveals "the current challenges that executives see themselves facing and how their companies are responding to them." Among other things, the findings indicate "the inadequacy of existing talent and management pipelines" and highlight the fact that less than one third of the German top executives surveyed said "that their companies have a well-documented succession planning process in place."

The article, titled "Lessons from the Crisis", goes on to describe the views of managers on leadership skills, innovation capabilities and the business strategy of their respective companies. "Many German managers sense a lack of the strong leadership required to drive change in their organizations." At the same time, in Germany in particular the way companies had dealt with the crisis was considered positive: "29% said their senior management was excellent in this respect, compared with a worldwide figure of just 19%." As the crisis draws to a close, writes Lothar Kuhn from Harvard Business Manager, it is up to the executives themselves "to close the astonishingly wide gap between recognition of what needs to be done and consistent implementation."
