MBA promotes personal development

With around 1,500 programs on offer worldwide and 130,000 graduates annually, the market for MBA programs is booming, reports Die Presse. In Austria the average fees for an MBA are around EUR 25,000, but this figure can be much higher in other countries. But does this investment pay off for graduates? Despite the MBA’s popularity, its impact on compensation remains hard to assess, notes Silke Eisenreich, a consultant at Egon Zehnder International, Vienna. While the qualification does not guarantee any pay rises, it does increase an individual’s market value, she observes. In Eisenreich’s view this value creation justifies the high fees charged by business schools. “The personal development of the participant should be the main focus,” she concludes.
