Top leaders seek meaning over money
Kurier

Work is not just about money for top executives, it is about the responsibilities and scope of their role, reports the Austrian publication Kurier citing the latest survey on executive compensation conducted by Egon Zehnder International. According to the survey entitled, "Reward - seeking the ideal blend of financial compensation and fulfilment," 75 percent of participants worldwide see the job itself as the most important factor. This figure is even higher in Germany and Switzerland (79 percent) and India (83 percent). "Identification with the company is a key factor," explains Raimund Steiner, a consultant at Egon Zehnder International, Vienna. "Work should have an intrinsic value," he adds. Interestingly, 84 percent of Swiss top leaders and 2 out of 3 German top leaders declared themselves willing to accept lower compensation in exchange for an exciting role. "The wish for fulfilment at work is particularly important in the German-speaking community," notes Steiner. The survey's findings also revealed that achieving a healthy work-life balance is increasingly important for young executives.
