What is the profile of the ideal "2010 manager," asks the Swiss
Handelszeitung? Credibility and trustworthiness are certainly key leadership criteria for the forthcoming year, says
Philippe Hertig, head of Egon Zehnder International's Zurich office. "In the transitional phase from crisis to modest growth, the '2010 manager' should be characterized by proven leadership skills, transparent and truthful communication, as well as reliability and trustworthiness," explains Hertig. He predicts a return of competences like long-term thinking, a sense of personal responsibility, commitment to sustainable growth, integrity and sensitivity to social and political developments, especially in terms of bonus payments. Hertig sums up the current trend as "a clear renaissance of so-called traditional values." Ultimately, concludes Hertig, "It is a question of striking the right balance between economical, ecological and social/ethical behavior."
