Teams have a tendency to engage in narcissistic navel-gazing; they lose track of time and control of resources; and even if their work is ultimately crowned with success, the contributions of their individual members are rarely given due recognition. The 848 top managers from around the world surveyed by Egon Zehnder International in October 2009 paint a most unfavorable picture of teamwork in their replies. The members of the high-caliber panel included executives from major corporations as well as small and medium-size enterprises from across the full spectrum of industries. What also emerged from their answers was that, however poor it may look right now, teamwork is becoming increasingly important.
This was the seventh time that Egon Zehnder International had staged an online survey to question top leaders about current issues in corporate management. With the International Executive Panel, Egon Zehnder International has created an instrument that gives us insights into the spectrum of opinions held by leading corporate decision-makers around the world.
