CEO succession: companies can do better
Boston Business Journal

Senior executives see a lack of leadership potential and poor succession planning in their companies, reports the Boston Business Journal. According to Egon Zehnder International's recent International Executive Panel survey of over 800 executives worldwide, nearly 70 percent of participants believe that there is a shortage of key skills such as the ability to drive change and innovation in their company's leadership pipeline. The survey also reveals the widespread perception (68 percent) of an overall lack of well-documented succession planning. "Corporate Boards need to examine their future plans and determine if they have an effective leadership succession plan in place," notes George Davis, Egon Zehnder International, Boston. "The lack of planning for expected and unexpected changes in top leadership puts a company at great risk," concludes Justus O'Brien, Egon Zehnder International, New York.
