Business transformation and innovation were the main focus of the recent CIO Summit of America held in Houston on 3 March 2010. Over 200 top executives and senior managers from the IT industry attended the summit, which was part of a series of events organized across the U.S. and co-partnered by Egon Zehnder International. Trent Aulbaugh, a consultant at Egon Zehnder International, Houston, led a panel discussion centering on the role of the CIO as a turnaround expert.

As transformed business processes start to give firms a competitive edge, there is growing demand for leaders of cultural change. Discussions revealed that companies are now looking for IT executives who can enable the re-engineering of business processes throughout their organization to create value. Such leaders typically have a strategic technology vision, as well as a deep understanding of the various businesses within the business, and of the outside competitive landscape.
