Claire Lu, based in Shanghai, is a trusted advisor to financial services clients throughout Greater China and Asia Pacific. Her main coverage includes retail and wholesale banking, wealth management, and asset management. The services Claire provides range from executive and board search, expert advice on CEO succession and talent management, to senior leadership development.
Claire spent much of her career in financial services, particularly in M&A and strategy advisory covering banks, insurance, wealth management funds, etc. Before joining Egon Zehnder, she was Director of Business Management for the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited in Shanghai, responsible for the performance and daily operations of China Institutional Banking business that generated 95% of the bank's revenues in China. Prior to that, Claire worked as a special advisor to the Westpac Banking Corporation Greater China CEO on strategic and business issues. She returned to China as a consultant at Bain & Company in Shanghai specialized in financial services, M&A and due diligence.
Before returning to China, Claire was in the M&A team for Westpac’s Strategy Group based in Sydney Headquarters, where she engineered the largest financial merger in Australian history, led and completed multiple IPOs and acquisitions, and conducted integration and strategic projects for banks, insurance, fund management, private equity and incubator funds. She started her career in the Corporate Finance division of a chartered accountancy in Sydney. Claire holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with Distinction majoring in Finance and Economics and a Master of Commerce majoring in Business Law and Accounting, both from the University of Sydney.
