Kohei Onozaki Egon Zehnder, Tokyo
Kohei Onozaki, based in Tokyo, is a core member of Egon Zehnder’s Life Science & Health Care practices and Public sector. He is closely connected with top executives in major Japanese health care and medical institutions.
Before joining Egon Zehnder, he served as the President of the Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) from 2014. Before that, he was the Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Legal at the pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca, where he engaged in Crisis Management, Business Contingency Planning, and Organizational Transformation. Kohei moved to the US to pursue graduate education in 2004, after gaining experience at Johnson & Johnson over 10 years. In 2006, he returned to Japan and joined the HGPI in 2007. As the director of the Health Policy Unit and the Vice President of HGPI, Kohei drafted policy recommendations including party manifest and conducted many policy projects.
He also serves as Health Policy Adviser for Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) from 2015. He also served as several government committees including Secretary General (2015) of “Health Care 2035 Advisory Panel”, which is held by strong initiative of MHLW Minister, and generally conduct analysis on strategies to address issues including public health promotion, health care system sustainability, contributions in global health, and community development.
Kohei earned a BA in Law from Hosei University. He holds a MS in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University, School of Public Health.
