Dow Jones – Integration Gives Global Leaders a Strong Start
As companies go global they need an increasingly diverse array of leaders to help them access new markets. But, according to Mark Byford, a consultant at Egon Zehnder, London, there are pitfalls in this approach:“You are often bringing people from one culture to another, and the very things you are hiring them for — a combination of competence in the role but difference in terms of their experience — may make it difficult for them to succeed initially.” A greater focus on integration is needed, says Byford, to improve the chances of new leaders.
