Based in Hamburg, Jörg Thierfelder leads Egon Zehnder’s Board Consulting Practice in Germany, focusing on board work, senior executive recruitment and development, and general counsel placements. He regularly advises family businesses on board composition and succession planning, with a focus on the industrial and consumer sectors. A lawyer by training and experience, Jörg previously led, and is still active in, the firm’s global Legal, Regulatory & Compliance Practice.

Before joining Egon Zehnder, Jörg was an attorney with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Hamburg and worked as a counsel on Deutsche Bank’s corporate investments team based in New York. He started his career as a Management Consultant at the Boston Consulting Group.
Jörg studied in Freiburg, Geneva, and Munich, and then earned a PhD in law from the University of Munich. He is also a certified leadership coach. Jörg cofounded and sits on the boards of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Foundation, the Foundation of the German National Youth Orchestra, and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra Association of Friends. He is married with four children and passionate about culture and the arts. An accomplished flutist, he regularly plays chamber music and belongs to the Management Symphony, a German amateur orchestra consisting of businesspeople.
