Toru Kaihatsu is the Japan leader of Egon Zehnder’s Health Practice. Based in Tokyo, he has deep expertise in executive succession planning, global leadership development, and management appraisal. Toru advises clients in the life science, health care, and chemical industries. He is also active in Egon Zehnder’s Industrial and Financial Officers practices.
When people become happier after finding new career opportunities or rediscovering themselves through assessment and coaching, I feel rewarded and satisfied.
Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Toru was an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, working with clients in chemicals, semiconductors, and high-tech.
Toru has a Bachelor of Engineering in applied chemistry and a Master of Science in materials science from Tokyo University, and an MBA from Sloan School of Management at MIT. He cotranslated Real Leadership: Helping People and Organizations Face Their Toughest Challenges, by Professor Dean Williams at Harvard Kennedy School, into Japanese. He is a flautist and finds inspiration in music.

エゴンゼンダー入社以前は、マッキンゼー・アンド・カンパニーにてエンゲージメント・マネジャーとして、化学・素材業界やハイテク業界など幅広い分野でコンサルティングに従事。
東京大学工学部 応用化学科卒業、東京大学大学院 新領域創成科学研究科 物質系専攻にて理学修士を取得。その後マサチューセッツ工科大学(MIT) スローン経営大学院にて経営学修士(MBA)を取得。ハーバード大学教育大学院のロバート・キーガン教授による自己変革手法 Immunity To Change (ITC) の認定コーチであり、またハーバード大学ケネディスクールのディーン・ウィリアムズ教授の『リーダーシップ 6つの試練 (原題Real Leadership: Helping People and Organizations Face Their Toughest Challenges)』の共訳者。フルート奏者であり、音楽がインスピレーションの源泉となっている。
