Mannheimer Morgen – Non-Executive Female Board Members: “A wealth of top-class candidates to choose from”

How has the introduction of a legal quota on non-executive female board participation affected firms’ behavior, asks the German daily newspaper Mannheimer Morgen? Companies began looking for female board members and leaders long before the introduction of legal quotas in Germany, notes Egon Zehnder Partner Brigitte Lammers. She dismisses the argument that there are not enough qualified women as a baseless rumor. “Companies looking for female board members have a wealth of top-class candidates to choose from without having to make any compromises,” explains Lammers. The problem comes, she says, if organizations insist that candidates must have experience as executive board member of a stockmarket-listed company. “For me that is not the crucial factor. The various board members should complement each other with their competencies,” adds Lammers.
