Stephan Buchner, based in Munich, advises national and international clients in the consumer, retail, apparel and fashion, and media and sports sectors. Building on his previous 10-year experience as an international business leader and his 20-year tenure with Egon Zehnder, he works with clients to solve leadership issues in a wide range of situations and contexts. He is passionate about helping organizations create innovative teams and cultures bound for success. His clients include global corporations, private-equity firms and family owned businesses. Working with great individuals who want to make a difference energizes Stephan and he strives to support and experience their career achievements.

Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Stephan was Managing Director at Bertelsmann Publishing Group. He began his career as Assistant to the CEO and held various management positions in Europe and North America over the following ten years. For the company’s book-publishing business, today part of Random House, he led a successful marketing strategy in New York. As President of Doubleday Canada, he restructured the business and increased long-term profitability. 

Stephan has an MA, Diplom-Kaufmann, and a PhD in Business Administration, Dr. rer. oec, and has studied at the Universities of Mainz, Munich and Saarbrücken. He is a member of the board of trustees for the private university MakroMedia. He is a passionate runner and also enjoys downhill skiing, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Stephan L. Buchner hat sich auf die Bereiche Konsumgüter, Einzelhandel, Fashion und Medien spezialisiert. Außerdem leitet er die deutsche Praxisgruppe Consumer. Er berät nationale und internationale Unternehmen bei der Suche nach Spitzenführungskräften und führt Evaluierungen im Rahmen von Management Appraisals durch. Außerdem unterstützt er Organisationen in Fragen des Talentmanagements, der Nachfolgeplanung und der Teameffizienz. Zu seinen Klienten gehören internationale Konzerne, Familienunternehmen (er ist zertifizierter Family Business Coach) sowie private Beteiligungsgesellschaften.

Stephan L. Buchner begann seine Karriere bei der Bertelsmann AG als Assistent des Vorstandsvorsitzenden und arbeitete während dieser Zeit in New York, wo er eine Marketingstrategie für den Doubleday Book & Music Club entwickelte. Anschließend wurde er zum Geschäftsführer von Doubleday Kanada mit Sitz in Toronto ernannt. Nach einer erfolgreichen Umstrukturierung des Unternehmens kehrte er nach Europa zurück und wurde Direktor des Bertelsmann Club in der Schweiz. In den folgenden Jahren stieg er zum Marketing Director und Mitglied der Geschäftsführung des Bertelsmann Club auf. Seine Karriere bei Bertelsmann gipfelte in seiner Rolle als Geschäftsführer der Bertelsmann Verlagsgruppe (heute Random House).

Dr. rer. oec. und Diplom-Kaufmann Stephan L. Buchner hat an den Universitäten Mainz, München und Saarbrücken studiert.
