Michael Ensser is the former Global Chair of Egon Zehnder, based in Zurich. In this role, he shaped the firm's strategic direction and led a significant period of international expansion, deepening its presence across markets worldwide. He previously served as Managing Partner of the German and Swiss organizations. His work centers on advising CEOs, boards, and senior leadership teams – with a particular focus on the media and technology sectors. For many years, he also led the Board Academy, a joint initiative of McKinsey, KPMG, and Egon Zehnder dedicated to advancing good governance in Germany. He was a member of the Community of Chairs at the World Economic Forum and supports the Berlin Global Dialogue.

Before Egon Zehnder, Michael served as Chief of Staff to the Executive Board of the Treuhandanstalt, the agency entrusted with privatizing East German enterprises following reunification. He began his career as a journalist in Munich, editor at the Ippen Media Group.
He studied political science and law at the Universities of Munich and Konstanz, and holds a PhD on European industrial policy. Outside work, he has a deep passion for literature, history, and politics – and is an avid book collector and devoted soccer fan.

Er gehörte der Community of Chairs des World Economic Forum an und unterstützt den Berlin Global Dialogue.
Vor Egon Zehnder war er Leiter des Vorstandsstabs der Treuhandanstalt, die nach der Wiedervereinigung ostdeutsche Staatsunternehmen privatisierte. Seine Karriere begann er als Journalist in München, Redakteur bei der Ippen Media Group.
Er hat Politikwissenschaft und Jura an den Universitäten München und Konstanz studiert und über europäische Industriepolitik promoviert. In seiner Freizeit interessiert er sich leidenschaftlich für Literatur, Geschichte und Politik, ist ein begeisterter Büchersammler und Fußballfan.
