For over two decades now, Johannes von Schmettow has been a trusted advisor to senior leaders of public, private equity-owned, and family companies of all sizes, guiding them in leadership appointments as well as helping them compose balanced boards. He is passionate about good governance and also counsels European governments and government-owned companies in talent management. Over the past few years, he has established a particular expertise in building impactful ESG committees for global boards.

Johannes grew up in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he still lives with his family. He earned a PhD in mathematics from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, followed by a postdoctoral period in Sydney, Australia, and five years as Consultant and Case Leader with the Boston Consulting Group. He serves on the board of Diakonie Düsseldorf, a social welfare organization of Germany’s protestant churches.

Rather than blogging or posting on social networks, he gives occasional interviews and selectively publishes his insights on leadership and governance.
