Yasushi Maruyama is the former Country Head of Egon Zehnder Japan and served on the Firm’s global Executive Committee until 2022. His practice spans executive and board search, CEO succession, corporate governance, management assessment, and leadership development. He supports the transformation of boards, CEOs, senior executives, and their leadership teams at organizations ranging from global corporations to family enterprises. Yasushi is a Certified Immunity to Change Coach and a Professional Fellow of the Institute of Coaching.
A leader’s decision is always made in solitude. Yet at the moment they take that step, its ripples spread far beyond the organization. I walk alongside them on the road to that decision—and on the road that begins from it.
Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Yasushi was an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company in the Tokyo and Frankfurt offices, advising leading global companies. As a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University, he researched corporate governance and board transformation, leadership under uncertainty, and the management of long-lived companies.
Yasushi earned BS and MS degrees in Computer Science at the University of Tokyo, and an MBA with Distinction from INSEAD. Committed to unlocking the potential of next-generation leaders, he lectures at Stanford University, the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University’s graduate school, and Kaisei Academy, among others. He served as a member of the Round Table Conference on Improving Sustainable Corporate Value convened by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). He is the author of The Trap of Being Too Good: How to Break Free from the Patterns That Hold Us Back, published in Japan by Diamond Inc.

前職マッキンゼー・アンド・カンパニーでは、東京オフィスおよびフランクフルトオフィスに在籍。大手グローバル企業を対象にコンサルティングに従事。スタンフォード大学客員研究員として、企業統治・取締役会の変革、不確実性下におけるリーダーシップ、長寿企業の経営について研究。
東京大学理学部卒業、東京大学大学院情報理工学系研究科修士課程修了。INSEAD MBA修了 (with Distinction）。次世代リーダーのポテンシャルを解放するための社会的な取り組みにも力を注ぎ、スタンフォード大学、東京大学、京都大学大学院、開成学園などで講義を行う。経済産業省「持続的な企業価値向上に関する懇談会」委員を務めた。著書に『真面目の縛りを解く方法』（ダイヤモンド社）。
