Rian Raghavjee was born and educated in South Africa and also gained considerable work experience there before moving to London. Now he regularly works out of Egon Zehnder’s offices in both countries and is mainly active in Egon Zehnder’s Financial Services Practice with special emphasis on international investment banking, insurance and asset management. Rian provides a wide range of services that include advising clients on executive and nonexecutive search across a variety of broad leadership roles as well some functional specialisms like Risk.
Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Rian was involved in growing various physical commodity businesses toward sale or IPO. He co-founded a company to build multi-commodity trading businesses for clients, and led the origination function in identifying structured commodity trading opportunities and asset investments. Rian began his career as an engineer for Anglo American in the gold mines in South Africa. He later joined AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. undertaking a variety of roles in business planning, corporate finance and market development functions, the last of which saw him invest in start-up and joint venture companies and projects globally. He then moved to London to run corporate development for a nuclear fuel trading company. Rian has served on the board of the World Gold Council.
Rian earned a BSc in Engineering from the University of Natal and an MSc in Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, both in South Africa. Rian is also a CFA Charterholder.
