Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Berthold was an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, based in Berlin. He provided strategy consulting to German and international financial services clients, particularly those in retail banking, developing his expertise in CRM, multi-channel sales, marketing, and product development. Previously, Berthold was a Research Fellow at The Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge, studying small business finance in France, Germany, and the UK.

Berthold earned undergraduate degrees in Economics and Philosophy from University of Freiburg as well as a Maîtrise, DEA, and PhD in Economics from University of Toulouse in France. Berthold serves on the advisory board of Leadership Berlin e.V., a not-for-profit organization that focuses on collaborative leadership development programs, bringing together executives from the public, private and charitable sectors.
