Berthold Leube possesses deep experience in financial services and banking, with a particular focus on retail, and he directs senior executive search-and-succession planning engagements for national and international financial services institutions, also frequently conducting searches for CFOs and related functions. In addition, he leads Egon Zehnder’s Services Practice in Germany and is active in the firm’s Board Consulting Practice. Drawing on 20 years of advisory experience in boardrooms, Berthold works closely with CEOs and management boards on leadership assessment and development strategies to build world-class senior executive teams. He also provides expert counsel to boards on succession planning and recruitment of chairpersons and nonexecutive directors, and has extensive experience in board composition and diversity strategies. As a certified leadership coach, Berthold additionally provides accelerated integration support to leaders transitioning into new roles.

Before joining Egon Zehnder, Berthold was a Berlin-based Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, providing strategy advice to financial services clients across retail banking, CRM, multichannel sales, marketing, and product development. Previously he was a Research Fellow at Cambridge University’s Centre for Business Research.
Berthold earned undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy from the University of Freiburg as well as a Maîtrise, DEA, and PhD in economics from the University of Toulouse in France. Outside of work, he serves on the advisory board of Leadership Berlin e.V., a nonprofit organization that focuses on collaborative leadership development programs. Berthold enjoys theatrical and dance performances, reading literature, flying (he has a private pilot license), sailing, and jogging.
