John Lowry is a core member of Egon Zehnder’s industrial practice and is a former US Assistant Secretary of Labor for Veterans’ Employment, a position to which he was confirmed with the unanimous consent of the United States Senate. John has held a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance (TS/SCI) in three different government roles (uniformed and civilian) during both Democratic and Republican administrations. He also brings a wealth of private sector manufacturing and end-to-end supply chain experience. He previously led the Firm’s U.S. Supply Chain and Operations Practice and today focuses on board recruitment and leadership advisory services. He has a particular passion for working with clients operating under Special Security Agreements (SSAs) and/or seeking to meet board membership requirements set forth by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
The people dynamic of the work is energizing. Gaining and applying insights while connecting with others makes this job fun. Every conversation brings an opportunity to sharpen my professional judgment.
Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, John was Chief Operating Officer of Allied Recreation Group. He also spent more than a dozen years at Harley-Davidson, where he led manufacturing operations in Kansas City and Milwaukee. Before his business career, John was an Infantry Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He finished his military career in the reserves and retired with the rank of Colonel.
John earned an AB from Princeton University, master’s degrees from Stanford University and the U.S. Army War College, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
