2019 - City - Johannesburg

On March 14, 2019, Egon Zehnder hosted an intimate Leaders & Daughters dinner in Johannesburg, bringing together 31 guests including leaders and their daughters and mentees. Below are a few of the key insights from the evening’s discussion:

Authenticity

• Build meaningful relationships, this develops resilience, trust and EQ because it is difficult. 

• Show up as your true and authentic self. Be reliable, credible and trustworthy.

• Engage, challenge and confront diversity and prejudice issues across the generations. Communication is crucial.

• Create a support system around you that includes both internal and external sponsors and mentors and enables you to thrive.

• Seek out people who can teach and guide you.

• Be open to ask and receive honest feedback, as this is the best way to develop your EQ and self-awareness.

Marathon mentality

• Your career is a marathon, not a race. Don’t be in a hurry to get to the top, but be mindful of your pace, and under promise and over deliver.

• Be willing to start at the bottom and work your way up. It is important to earn your stripes, so take the time to learn and do the small things.
