Based in Dallas, Star Carter is a member of Egon Zehnder’s Legal Consultancy Services Practice. Drawing on extensive experience gained as an entrepreneur and while representing and advising public and privately held companies on a wide range of legal matters at two internationally acclaimed law firms, she primarily focuses on technology and private equity companies. Star’s clients greatly value her personal, hands-on approach and strong strategic skills.

Before joining Egon Zehnder, Star cofounded a venture-backed diversity, equity, and inclusion technology startup and served as its Chief Operations Officer and General Counsel. Prior to that, she provided business and legal advice to some of the world’s leading private equity funds, including Lone Star Funds, while working in-house as a Senior Associate Counsel at Hudson Advisors LLC. Star’s experience also includes more than a decade as a corporate attorney with Sidley Austin LLP and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP advising private equity funds and both joint-stock and privately held companies. Across all of her roles, she has moved organizations forward and fostered cultures of inclusion and achievement.
Star earned a BBA in marketing and marketing management from the Texas McCombs School of Business of University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas. In 2021 Star was placed on Inc.’s Female Founders 100 List of Inspiring Women, after being named one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s 100 Most Powerful Women of 2020 the year before.
Committed to giving back to her local community, Star has been recognized for her leadership by the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program as a Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year and served as a member and chair of the board of directors of Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, a nonprofit organization that provides free civil legal services to eligible low-income residents. Outside work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, traveling, staying active, and coaching sports.
