Based in Washington D.C., Matthew Shipman leads our North-American Aerospace & Defense practice. He advises executives, boards, and investors across public, private, and government organizations within A&D, industrials, and manufacturing. He focuses on leadership, governance, and transformation in complex, high-stakes environments, grounded in a conviction that clarity, accountability, and courage define exceptional leadership.

Matthew brings a distinctive perspective shaped by a decade as a U.S. Navy SEAL officer, where he led teams in high-consequence environments and developed deep expertise in decision-making under pressure, mission execution, and team performance. He later joined McKinsey & Company, advising global manufacturing and industrial organizations on strategy, operations, and large-scale performance transformation. He has also held operating roles within private equity-backed companies, gaining firsthand experience in scaling organizations and driving results.
Matthew holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Business and a B.S. in Supply Chain and Information Systems from Penn State. Outside of work, he is an ultramarathon runner and enjoys software development.
